A bit of confusion was wrapped up in a series of photos shared by Delia's Tamales over the weekend ahead of the highly anticipated San Antonio location opening. Some foodies questioned if the Alamo City installment, the first of the Delia's chain to open outside of the Rio Grande Valley, would be thawing and cooking frozen tamales after a Facebook post showed boxes arriving at the San Antonio restaurant.

Frozen tamales," a Facebook user chimed in. A spokesperson for the restaurant said all food is served fresh at all locations. The boxes contain raw tamales, which are ready to be cooked, just like in the RGV.

The Facebook post clarified the need for tamales at the San Antonio restaurant before the opening, too. The boxes of tamales aren't for sale, they're for training purposes.

Delia's said "the majority" of the boxes pictured will be donated to local food banks. The restaurant does plan on building a factory nearby in the future, but decided to keep production as is, considering the uncertainty of the coronavirus pandemic. Delia's is expected to open in the coming weeks and is continuing to beef up their staff at the San Antonio location at Hausman Pass on the Northwest Side.
